Reflection for Wednesday of 1st week of Lent - Psalm 69:1-3

Save me, O God,
For the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire,
where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
and the flood sweeps over me.
I am weary with my crying;
my throat is parched.
My eyes grow dim
with waiting for my God.

We cry out for the Lord to save us in the midst of our misery and suffering.  We wait for the Lord.  We wait and prepare during this holy season of Lent.  However, it is not a passive waiting where we do nothing.  Instead, it is an active waiting, filled with hope and anticipation, filled with works of charity and a purging of those things that keep us from God.  Yes, during Lent we actively wait.
