Message for Good Friday - St Jude Catholic Church - Pearl Mississippi

Greetings to all of you on this holy day of Good Friday.  Today, we want to encourage all of you to attend one of our Good Friday liturgies that are streaming on FACEBOOK LIVE: at 6:00 pm in Spanish and at 7:00 pm in English.  The veneration of the cross on Good Friday is one of the holy moments we celebrate during Holy Week.  As we have prayed the stations of the cross during Lent, as we pray the stations of the cross on Good Friday at noon, we recognize Good Friday as the day that Jesus’ died as a part of God’s plan for salvation.  We ask that each family have a crucifix or a cross as a part of our recognition of Good Friday and in honoring Christ as our savior and redeemer.  I wish you blessings today on Good Friday in the words of this beautiful prayer:

Prayer for Good Friday:
Lord God, Jesus cried out to you on the cross,
“Why have you forsaken me?”
God, you seemed so far from his cry and from his distress.

Those who stood at the foot of the cross wondered where you were.
As they saw Jesus mocked and shamed and killed, they wondered:
Where were you then?

Lord God, we, too, ask where you are:
In the midst of a world in crisis,
In the midst of sickness and death,
In the midst of trouble and confusion,
And we cry out to you for help.

Be near to us, Lord, and save us,
So that we may praise you for your deliverance.

Lord God,
We wait, on Friday, for the resurrection of Sunday.
Sometimes our lives seem a succession of Fridays.
We cannot see what is “good.”

Teach us to call upon your name as Jesus did.
Help us to trust in you as your children.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
