15 April 2020 – Wednesday of first week of Easter – Acts 3:1-10

I always love listening to the readings from the Acts of Apostles that we hear throughout the first readings during the Easter season, giving us detail about the development of the Early Church and how the first disciples grew in their faith after Christ’s death and resurrection.  Today and tomorrow, we hear a continuing story about a lame man who is asking for alms in the Temple area.  He is looking to cover his basic needs, with money for food and other necessities.  He gets something altogether different after he approaches Peter and John: he receives healing from his infirmities.  He is so excited after his healing as he walks and jumps around, praising God.
Healing comes in different forms in our lives.  God’s graces and God’s presence are there in our lives in so many different ways, yet, often we are oblivious to that presence at work in our lives.
Peter and John not only are able to recognize God at work in their lives, they are not only able to believe and to understand who Jesus is, but they use their faith to work wonders in their community, to continue the work and ministry of Jesus.  It may seem difficult now with the stay-at-home order and with all we have confining us and restricting us, but there are certainly ways we can continue we to witness to the Gospel, wherever we are.
We are being called to ask ourselves how God is calling us this Easter season to celebrate the presence of the risen Christ in our lives and to bring his Good News to others.  If we are not truly living out the Gospel message, how is it really present to us in our lives?
