8 October 2025 - homily for Wednesday of the 27th week in Ordainary time - Luke 11:1-4

The disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray in today’s Gospel from Luke. He then teaches them a shorter version of our Lord’s prayer. When I was in Medjugorje, we learned that the Blessed Virgin Mary asked the children to pray for peace and to pray the traditional Catholic prayers often. There is a Medjugorje chaplet that the children prayed that is prayed after the Croatian mass each evening there is the parish church, which consists of 7 Lords prayers, 7 hail Marys, and 7 Glory Bes. A very simple yet beautiful and sincere prayer that reflects the simple direct message of the Medjugorje apparition of the Blessed Mother.

There are so many different ways we can pray and communicate to God  Our Catholic faith has a rich tradition with written prayers, such as the rosary, the peace prayer of St Francis, and the prayer of St Michael the archangel. Just this past Friday, on the first Friday of the month, we prayed the litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a great tradition of our Catholic faith. We have so many other distinct methods of prayer in our Catholic faith tradition as well, such as centering prayer and lectio divina. I love the tradition of the different prayers we have in our Catholic faith. And I want to encourage you to pray the rosary in a more focused way this month of October, a month that traditionally is associated with the rosary and with our Blessed Mother.
