A monument to the fallen of the Spanish Civil War
The Spanish Civil War, in which General Francisco Franco became the leader of Spain and had rigid control over the country for decades, is a defining moment in the country of Spain. The following is a monument for the "caidos", those who had fallen in the Civil War. In a pilgrimage that has gone on for more than 1,000 years, history is all over the place. I saw this moment on my walk into the city of Burgos, the city where "El Cid" is from. Like I said, so much history on the pilgrimage trail.
