Back in the Delta With Memories of Winnipeg

     I am back in Yazoo City, back in the day-to-day reality of the Mississippi Delta, after my wonderful trip to Canada.  Winnipeg is one of my spiritual homes, a place where I found my voice and found my calling to be a missionary.  In the soup kitchens and food banks and inner city streets of Winnipeg, I heard God's voice clearly, I heard that voice calling me to serve him in a special way.  When I go back to Winnipeg for visits, I feel the spirituality of that wonderful city and of my missionary experiences calling out to me, to remind me of my calling.  I am grateful to the city of Winnipeg and for my experiences there.  I am grateful to good friends, to my adopted "family" there, to Dolly White, my adopted mom, and all of her wonderful clan; to Trish and Darryl Jackson and their entire family; to my friends Fran and Maria whom I met at Winnipeg Harvest so long ago.  It was great to rest and to re-energize.  I am glad to be back with my "people" in the parishes and prisons of Yazoo and Humphreys counties in the Mississippi Delta.  This weekend we celebrate the end of our liturgical year with Christ, the King.  I am glad to be back - the homilies will follow -

11/17/2011 - Wrapping up my visit in Winnipeg...

     Hi Everyone - I am wrapping up my visit to Winnipeg tomorrow.  I have had a great visit up here these past two weeks.  I lived up here from 1992 to 1994, serving in ministries up at Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank and Siloam Mission Soup Kitchen. I am visiting a lot of friends from those days.   I am wrapping up my visit with a home mass for my friends Darryl and Trish Jackson, celebrating their 40th anniversary.  I have had a great vacation and look forward to getting back to Yazoo City tomorrow, November 18.  I will post more homilies this weekend.  God bless -

11/8/2011 - Up in Winnipeg for two weeks

I am off for two weeks for a much needed vacation, the first real vacation that is not a priesthood related trip since I went to Indianapolis and Orange County in July 2010.  Boy, am I in need of a break.  I love being a priest in Mississippi, but it can be overwhelming at times with everything that needs to be done.  And we all need a change of scenery every now and then.  I am visiting friends up here that I have known since my missionary days of working at Siloam Mission and Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank up here in Winnipeg in 1992 - 1994.  And Winnipeg received its first snowfall on my day of arrival.  Blessings to everyone.  I will be back in Yazoo City the evening of Friday, November 18th.
