Introduction to the mass:
On our national independence day, we give thanks for the good things God gives us. We ask for the grace to share them with the world. Now, let us call to mind our sins:
Lord Jesus, you bless us with rich resources, Lord have mercy.
Christ Jesus, you give us true freedom, Christ have mercy.
Lord Jesus, you summon us to your banquet, Lord have mercy.
Prayers of the faithful:
Priest: We now pray for the people of our country as we celebrate our nation’s independence day. We pray for the world:
1. That the Church and our nation will inspire all nations to practice justice and respect human rights.
2. That all civic leaders may make justice the goal of their work and work for peace in our nation in all the nations of the world.
3. May we all aspire to bring peace to a world torn apart in violence and war. May we work toward healing and reconciliation.
4. For the sick and shut-ins of our community. For the repose of the souls of the faithful departed, especially for those who died serving our nation.
5. For the prayers we hold in our hearts.
Priest: Gracious God - creator of the world - you are the source of life, liberty, and happiness. Today and every day we beg your blessings through Jesus Christ, our Lord forever and ever. Amen.
