January 14, 2018 - 2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time - Mass Introductions

Introduction:
Christmas season is now behind us as we move into the new liturgical year.  Our liturgy today challenges us to reflect upon what following Christ means. We gather as God’s people at mass today, called to follow the Lamb of God and to praise God, let us call to mind our sins.

Penitential rite:
Lord Jesus, you are the Lamb of God - Lord have mercy.
Christ Jesus, you are our Savior and our Redeemer - Christ have mercy.
Lord Jesus, you are the king of kings - Lord have mercy.

Introduction to Creed:
As modern-day disciples of Christ, let us profess our faith:

Prayers of the faithful:
(Priest) My dear brothers and sisters, with humble hearts, we now present to God needs and bring them to God.

1. For Pope Francis as he travels to Chile and Peru — that his mission may be successful.  We pray for the Church all over the world.
2. For all the baptized — that we may answer the call to follow Christ every day on our journey.
3. For migrants, refugees, and the stranger in our midst -  that they may experience compassion.
4. For members of religious groups who are persecuted throughout the world — that they may be able to practice their faith in freedom.
5. For all who are suffering from the flu and from the harsh winter weather.  For the city of Jackson - that the water system may be functioning and repaired.
6. For the men and women in the military - for the men and women who protect us each day - in gratitude for their sacrifices.
7. For the sick and shut-ins of our community.  For the repose of the souls of the faithful departed.

(Priest) God our creator, we pray that you hear our cries: grant our petitions, we pray you, through Christ, our Lord for ever and ever.   Amen.
