I just read a news release from Vatican City that announced that Pope Francis will hold the Holy Thursday afternoon service at the Casal Del Marmo jail for youth on the outskirts of Rome. This is the traditional Holy Service where the priest washes the feet of 12 people in commemoration of Jesus' gesture of humility and service right before his death on a cross.
This is the first Easter that I will not have services in one of the prisons. For the past couple of years, I have had services in the state prisons in Pearl and Yazoo City, as well as the federal prison in Yazoo City. I miss ministering to the guys there, although I am still writing letters to several of them.
Normally, the pope holds the Holy Thursday service at St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City or in the Basilica of St John Lateran in Rome. Pope Francis' humility and love of the poor is an example that is speaking so strongly to our world right now. He brings a wonderful message to our children and youth.
