Born in 1991 and dying in 2006 at the age of 15 from leukemia, Carlo Acutis was canonized a saint by Pope Leo XIV on September 7, 2025. He lived his short life here on earth deeply devoted to his Catholic faith. He used to computer skills to spread Christ’s Gospel message to the world, particularly in his interest in Eucharistic miracles. He is known as the first millennial saint and has the nickname as God influencer, reflecting the way he used the internet to reach out to others in faith. We see his faith combining modern technology with the Catholic traditions and faith devotions. His family was not particularly devout during most of his lifetime. But Carlo attended Mass daily and had a very strong devotion to the Eucharist. He called the Eucharist his highway to heaven. He is also known for the way he lived out the spirit of the Eucharist in his daily life and the love he had for his neighbor, particularly in the way he reached out to the poor, defended bullied classmates, and comforted the lonely. Although Carlo was born in London, England and spent most of his life in the city of Milan, Italy, his family owned a home in the town of Assisi, the hometown of St Francis of Assisi, which is where Carlo’s family spent most of their vacation time. Carlo had a strong devotion to St. Francis of Assisi, whom he saw as his patron saint and spiritual guide. Carlo want Assisi to be his final resting place. His family chose the Shrine of the Renunciation at the Church of St. Mary Major in Assisi as his final resting place. His body was transferred there in 2007. He is the patron saint of the Internet, web developers, computer programmers, IT technology, Catholic youth, and Catholic youth groups. We unite our prayers with the prayers and intercession of St Carlo Acutis today.
