Photos - St Francis of Assisi Parish - Yazoo City, MIssissippi - Celebrating the Feast Day of Francis of Assisi

We have two parishes in Yazoo City.  One of them, St Francis of Assisi, is a historically African American Parish run by the priests of The Society of the Divine Word out of Techny, Illinois.  The school there was founded in 1940 by the School Sisters of St Francis out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  We are very proud of our parish and its history in the committee.  It educated many, many children who are now leaders in the committee and in many parts of the US and throughout the world.  We celebrated the feast of St Francis of Assisi Sunday with a special liturgy during mass and with a breakfast and presentation afterwards in our parish hall.  The children learned about the spirituality of St Francis, of how he saw God alive in all of creation.  Alumni from the school shared memories about their experiences, especially their great love for the sisters and priests who educated them and nurtured them.  It was a great event for our Catholic faith community here in Yazoo City.
