Introduction: This weekend, we commemorate the end of the liturgical year with the celebration of Christ the King. Although we have many earthly kings and earthly kingdoms that come and go, Jesus as the King of the Universe reigns in glory for all eternity. We celebrate this great solemnity today as we start a new liturgical year next weekend with the beginning of the holy season of Advent.
Penitential Rite:
Lord Jesus - you are the king of glory.
Christ Jesus - you are seated at the right hand of the Father.
Lord Jesus - you proclaim the kingdom of God through your ministry.
Priest: As we celebrate Christ as the king of heaven and earth, we present our prayers to our heavenly Father with humility and simplicity of heart:
1. That we in the Church may cooperate in Jesus’ ministry as we offer forgiveness and accept suffering in our life of discipleship. We pray to the Lord.
2. That we be moved to forgive all who have injured us and show concern and compassion for them. We pray to the Lord.
3. That we may speak and live the virtues that are planted deep within our hearts so that we may be authentic witnesses to God’s reign. We pray to the Lord.
4. That through the cross of Christ, our understandings of power, success, and glory may be transformed. May we place ourselves more fully in the service of God. We pray to the Lord.
5. That we may live our lives of faith with zeal and courage while recognizing that our goal is union with Christ in God’s eternal kingdom. We pray to the Lord.
6. That Christ will shepherd us into one family where we can work together to bring forth Christ’s reign and defeat the powers of darkness in the world. May we bring God’s message of hope to all the corners of CMCF. We pray to the Lord.
7. For Pope Leo XIV and all Church leaders. May they be effective leaders and wise shepherds of God’s people. We pray to the Lord.
8. For the prayers we hold in the silence of our hearts. For our prayer intentions spoken and unspoken. We pray to the Lord.
Priest: With faith and hope in the risen Christ, the king of Glory, we present our prayers through your son Jesus Christ, our Lord forever and ever. AMEN.
