6/25/2013 – Tuesday of the 12th week in ordinary time – Matthew 7:6, 12-14

The road that is wide and easy is often the road to destruction, according to Jesus.  He asks us to enter through the narrow gate.  This is the gate that leads us to God’s kingdom – it is the gate of the Gospel of Life.  I look at how the media in our modern world seems to think that if the majority of our society is in favor of something, then it is the right thing to do.  Sometimes, it is difficult sorting out where our Church stands on some modern issues of faith, but we need to struggle with and sort out what God is leading us to do.

Struggling with matters of faith and searching for God in the midst of our busy lives is not easy.  It is difficult asking the questions we need to ask in our lives in order to keep advancing down the road of faith.  It is not easy to love, to forgive, to show compassion to those who hurt us or offend us.  It is easier to hold a grudge, to try to get revenge, to lash out against those who cross us.  The narrow gate is not an easy passage to enter, but we are called to have the patience and fortitude to try.
