Today, we hear about Jesus curing a
demoniac, of expelling the demon from him and giving him the gift of
speech. Then Jesus travels all over the
countryside, visiting villages and synagogues, curing the sick of different
ailments and diseases. Jesus was moved
in his heart by what he saw, he had pity for them, and out of that compassion
brought about healing in their lives.
I think a lot of us have demons of one
kind or another in our lives that we would like to have expelled by Jesus by
his touch or by the wave of his hand. It
is not that easy most of the time. I
have worked a lot with people with addictions, and have seen the hard work and
patience and dedication they must employ in order to overcome them. The state prisons here in Mississippi have
instituted a no tobacco policy as of July 1, so you can imagine the stress and
tension that has brought into the lives of many of the prisoners. Our faith in Jesus will help us approach our
demons and try to rid them out of our lives.
Knowing Jesus’ love and compassion for us, we can approach him without
any shame about any problem or addiction we are dealing with. We cannot solve these problems or issues in
our lives on our own, but with the healing power of Jesus to lead us and guide
us, we certainly can.
