31st Sunday in Ordinary time - penitential rite and prayers of the faithful

Penitential rite: 

God’s message has a living power amongst us.  As we gather for mass today to be edified and challenged by God’s holy word, confident in his love and mercy, let us call to mind our sins: 

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart: Lord, have mercy.

You came to call sinners: Christ, have mercy.

You plead for us at the right hand of the Father: Lord, have mercy.

Prayers of the faithful: 

Priest:  Brothers and sisters, we now present our prayers to God, who has compassion for the humble.

For priests and bishops — that their words and actions may always proclaim the Good News of Christ. 

For the leaders of our country and of all the nations, that they may be true servants to the people.  

For peace in the world: for an end to violence, war, and terrorism.  We pray for the men and women protecting our country in the military.  We pray for healing and reconciliation for those react our of anger and revenge.  For victims of terrorism and violence, especially those who were killed in the act of terrorism this past week in New York.  

For all who teach and educate children, youth, and adults, that they may share their knowledge with their students in a life-giving and constructive way.  

For those who mourn, that they may be comforted. 

For people who are sick, in mind or body — that they may be healed. 

For those who have died, especially for those names inscribed on our altar clothe during this month of remembrance.  

Priest: God of all goodness: listen to the desires of our hearts. We humbly ask that you hear the prayers we make today through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord for ever and ever. Amen.

En nuestra santa misa hoy, renovamos nuestra confianza en Dios.  En preparación de esta celebración eucarística, reconozcamos nuestros pecados: 

Yo confieso, ante Dios todopoderoso, y ante ustedes hermanos, que he pecado…

Oraciones de los fieles: 

Sacerdote: En nuestra conmemoración de los fieles difuntos y las almas en el purgatorio, presentamos nuestras oraciones a nuestra Señor: 

1. Por los pastores de la Iglesia: para que lo que predican de palabra lo practiquen en las obras. Roguemos al Señor.  

2. Por quienes tienen la responsabilidad del gobierno de esta Nación y los otros naciones del mundo: para que promuevan la justicia y la paz.  Roguemos al Señor. 

3. Por quienes sufren por la muerte de algún ser querido: para que la fe en la Resurrección de Cristo les ayude en estos momentos difíciles. Roguemos al Señor. 

4. Por las personas que luchan con los adicciones y los sufrimientos: para que Dios se muestre con ellos como un verdadero Padre. Roguemos al Señor.   

5. Por nuestros hermanos, parientes y amigos difuntos: para que Dios les conceda la felicidad en compañía de sus santos y elegidos. Roguemos al Señor.  

6. Por nosotros que aun permanecemos en este mundo: para que sepamos consolarnos mutuamente con palabras de fe y de esperanza. Rogremos al Señor.

Mass introduction, penitential rite and prayers of the faithful - All Souls Day

All Souls Day - Introduction: 

On All Saints Day and today on All Souls Day, we remember all the dead, those in heaven and those still be on the way there.  God alone knows where each soul is. Today we pray for all souls, for the faithful departed still on the journey to their heavenly home. 

Penitential Rite: In today’s mass, as we prepare to renew our trust in God’s mercy, let us call to mind our sins: 

1 Lord Jesus - You raise the dead to life in the Spirit, Lord have mercy. 

2 Christ Jesus - You bring pardon and peace to the sinner, Christ have mercy. 

3 Lord, Jesus, You bring light to those in darkness: Lord, have mercy.

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.  

Prayers of the faithful: 

Priest:  As we continue on our journey to see the face of God, let us ask for help in the struggles we face as we present to God our needs and the needs of the world. 

1.  For all who follow Christ, that their faith in eternal life after death may be strong and resilient. We pray to the Lord.

2. For men and women who have died in war, violence, and acts of terrorism, that the tragedy of their deaths may spur humanity to build a world of peace, healing and tolerance.  We pray to the Lord. 

3. For young people and children who have died before their time; for parents who have endured the loss of a child, that the healing light of Christ may bring them hope, light and peace.  We pray to the Lord. 

4. For all who have died tragically, in accidents or by suicide, that God who holds dear all he has made may raise them up.  We pray to the Lord. 

5. For all our relatives, friends and fellow parishioners who have gone before us in faith, particularly those who have died this past year, that they may have the fullness of eternal joy. We pray to the Lord.  

6. For the sick and shut-ins of our community, for those in the hospital, hospice or nursing homes.  Prayers for healing and perseverance.  Prayers for their families and their caregivers.  We pray to the Lord.  

Priest: O God, you are the desire of the nations  Our souls thirst for you. As we seek your divine presence today, we ask that you hear the prayers we make in faith, through Jesus Christ our Lord forever and ever. Amen.
