Just a walk down the street from our parish in Belzoni are these colorful

catfish statues.  Belzoni is the catfish capital of the world, although the

catfish industry has hit hard times, with an increase in the price of grain

used for feed and a decreased demand for catfish due to cheaper imports

from abroad.  There are now far fewer catfish ponds in the area farms, so 

the industry is just a shadow of what it once was.  Nevertheless, Belzoni

is still proud of its catfish, and these colorful catfish statues grace the 

downtown area and give it a lot of local flavor.

When I came out of mass at our parish in Belzoni last Saturday

night, I noticed that there were more birds than I can count living

in amongst the wooden slats on the side of our church building. 

We have these cute bird houses in the yard of the parish, but I 

guess they are not enough for the number of birds we have.

Catfish statues - located all over the town of Belzoni, the catfish capital of the world. There are many ponds of farm-raised catfish in the Mississippi Delta. This statue is located across the street from All Saints Catholic Church.
