14 October 2020 - Wednesday of the 28th week of Ordinary Time - Galatians 5:18-25

Just like our reading yesterday from Galatians, today Paul talks again about freedom, the freedom we have in Christ, the freedom to which the Spirit leads us.  Paul juxtaposes the works of the flesh against the fruits of the spirit.  Just this past weekend, in Assisi, our Church had the beatification of Carlo Acutis, a teen who died in Italy from leukemia at the age of 15 in 2006.  Carlo was born in London in 1991 where his parents were stationed for work.  He grew up primarily in Milan, Italy.    He was a very pious, devout Catholic youth, who used her his computer skills and interest in the internet to evangelize other youth in the faith and to construct a database of Eucharistic miracles around the world.  The miracle healing of a Brazilian boy attributed to Carlo was approved by the Vatican this year, which paved the way for his beatification.   He had a great devotion to the Eucharist and the sacrament of reconciliation.  I bring him up, because it is Blessed Carlo’s faith and the freedom he had a disciple of Christ that allowed him to live his life to its fullest and reach out to other through the fruits of the Spirit, through love, kindness, and generosity.  May the Spirit lead all of us on our journey of faith.
