So many of us desire healing in our lives. We don't have to look very far for those who
need physical healing in our lives – we can look at our long-list of the sick
& shut-ins of our parish whom we pray for at mass each day. Perhaps we ourselves are suffering from
physical ailments or sickness at this moment as well. But, besides physical healing, there is also
the need for spiritual & psychological and emotional healing that many of
us need as well.
We hear about Jesus curing Peter's
mother-in-law in today's Gospel. Peter
was not shy in telling Jesus that his mother needed to be healed. We should not be shy in coming to Jesus with
our need to be healed as well. We need
to be bold & courageous in taking all of our cares and concerns to our
Lord. Perhaps Jesus will not bring
healing to our lives in they way we envision it will happen, but we are called
to see Jesus as the Great Healer, to come to him in confidence & faith.
On one Tuesday every month we have the
mass of the anointing of the sick here at our Catholic Community of Yazoo City. We have many different people come to receive
healing from Jesus in this holy sacrament, to celebrate it in the context of
our community of faith, to later share fellowship and a meal together. Through
our prayers, through our sacraments, through the support we receive from our
community of faith, healing can come to us in so many different ways. Our Lord
Jesus Christ indeed has the power to heal us and deliver us – may we ask Jesus
to set us free to serve Him joyfully, to love and serve our brothers and
sisters with a generous heart. May
nothing hinder us from giving our entire selves to Jesus & to his
service.
