Penitential rite:
As we prepare to listen to John the Baptist’s message of repentance in our mass today, let us call to mind our own need to repent and turn away from our sins:
Lord Jesus - You ask us to turn to you in time of trouble - Lord have mercy.
Christ Jesus - You are our Lord and our Savior - Christ have mercy.
Lord Jesus - You are Emmanuel - the Son of the Living God - Lord have mercy.
Profession of Faith:
As we prepare a place for the coming of our Lord in our hearts, let us profess our faith:
Prayers of the faithful:
Priest - We now bring our prayers before God, who has compassion and mercy for us.
1. For a spirit of repentance among all believers, we pray to the Lord.
2. For peace where it is most lacking, especially in the Middle East, northern Africa, and communities in our own country torn apart by violence and division, we pray to the Lord.
3. For reconciliation between those whose relationships are strained or broken. For healing for angry and impatient hearts.
4. For those still recovering from the hurricane season, especially in Texas and in the Caribbean. For aide and recovery. We pray to the Lord.
5. That all of us may prepared for Christmas through prayer and works of charity. We pray to the Lord.
6. For our children and youth in this season of anticipation. For a good end to the semester and for a good Christmas break.
7. For our sick and shut-in. For the repose of the souls of the faithful departed. We pray to the Lord.
Priest - O God, you save the poor and the needy when they cry to you. Hear the prayers of all your people, through Christ, our Lord for ever and ever. Amen.
