3rd Sunday in Advent - December 17, 2017 - Mass introductions and prayers of the faithful

Introduction and penitential rite:
On this 3rd Sunday of Advent we celebrate Gaudete Sunday, a day for rejoicing. We rejoice today because the day of the Lord’s coming is very near.  In our preparations to celebrate Christ’s sacred mysteries in the mass today, let us call to mind our sins:
Lord Jesus - you call us to prepare for your coming - Lord have mercy.
Christ Jesus - you are Emmanuel - God with us - Christ have mercy.
Lord Jesus - you are the son of the living God - Lord have mercy.

Introduction to Creed:  As we rejoice in the coming of the Lord, let us profess our faith.

Priest:  We now present our prayer to our generous God, who hears those who cry out to him:
1. For all the world, that the birth of the Redeemer may bring hope.
2. For those who follow Christ, that they may experience joy in this time of preparation.
3. For people whose hearts are broken.  For those who are searching for something in life. That God may bring them comfort.
4. For victims of violence or abuse: that they may experience compassion and renewal.
5. For the homeless and the hungry, that they may receive help and healing.
6. For people suffering because of war, violence, or terrorism.
7. For the sick and shut-in.  For the repose of the souls of the faithful departed.

Priest:  God of generous love, your mercy continues to embrace our world.  Hear the prayers of your people that we make through Jesus Christ, our Lord forever and ever.  AMEN.
