Today is
the feast day of St John Vianney, known as the Cure of Ars. He was ordained a priest in 1815 – 200 years
ago! He did not do well in seminary at
all. His bishop was not sure about
ordaining him a priest. He was sent
where they thought he would do the least harm, to the small village of Ars in
France. He gained a reputation of being
a great confessor and spiritual director.
He is the patron saint of priest and pastors. Let us pray in his name for vocations:
Lord, fill
the hearts and minds of your faithful with the power of the Holy Spirit, so that
those who are called to the priesthood, religious life, and lay ministry may respond
to your call with courage and generosity.
Give
parents the faith, love and spirit of giving that will inspire them to rejoice
when a child of theirs discerns a call to a vocation in your Church.
May the
intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, of St. Joseph and of St. John Vianney
help us to pray and to live your will in our lives. AMEN.
