17 September 2023 - Prayers of the faithful - 24th Sunday - CMCF

Introduction: God calls us to forgiveness in our readings today, to show mercy to those who have wronged us in matters both big and small.  Let us resolve to forgive our neighbor, to heal our relationships, and to live in kindness and mercy.

Lord Jesus - your cross and resurrection signal a new beginning of peace and reconciliation.

Christ Jesus - you comfort those who seek healing and forgiveness.

Lord Jesus - you give us the commandment to love one another as you loved us.

Priest: The Lord is kind and merciful. Let us appeal to God’s kindness and mercy as we bring to mind our needs and the needs of others’ in our prayers today:

1. That the Church may be a model of kindness and mercy as we ourselves seek forgiveness in our lives for our failures and sins, we pray to the Lord.

2. That Christian denominations may come together in a spirit of humility to collaborate in the proclamation of Christ’s Good News. We pray that we may work together for the good of all.  We pray to the Lord.

3. That those in positions of power may exercise their authority generously and mercifully, fostering an attitude of gratitude amongst all, we pray to the Lord.

4. For peace and healing amongst nations and communities, that they may find healing from the conflict and violence that are tearing them apart. We pray to the Lord.

5. For forgiveness in our lives, especially with those who have hurt or abandoned us, that we may work to make our relationships whole again, we pray to the Lord.

6. On Catechetical Sunday, we pray for our catechists, teachers, and volunteers in our religious education program.  We pray for our children, youth, and adults as we start our new year of religious education. We pray to the Lord.

6. For our deceased family members and loved ones, for their entry into eternal life, we pray to the Lord.

7. For healing of our illnesses and brokenness of body, mind, and spirit, we pray to the Lord.

8. For all the prayers we hold in the silence of our hearts, for all our prayer intentions spoken and unspoken, we pray to the Lord.

Priest: God of mercy, instill in us the courage to forgive one another.  May we exercise mercy in all aspects of our lives.  We present our prayers through your son Jesus Christ, our Lord forever and ever.  AMEN.
