Merciful God: You called us forth from the dust of the earth. You breathed life into us. You made us in your own image. You then claimed us for Christ in the waters of baptism, where we died with Christ and then rose to new life in him. Look upon us in love and mercy as we enter these 40 days of Lent. As we bear the mark of ashes, bless our journey through the desert of Lent to the font of rebirth. May our fasting and sacrifices inspire us to hunger for justice. May our works of charity inspire us to be peacemakers. May our prayers help transform our hearts and our lives in the values of gratitude and humility. As we recognized the cross of Jesus and the sacrifices he made for us, may we forever proclaim his love. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. AMEN.
