This is a great quote from Anthony of the Desert (251 - 356), whose feast day we celebrate on Friday, January 17. He was a Christian monk from Egypt. St Athanasius of Alexandria wrote a famous book about him in Greek that is entitled Life of Anthony.
“The fruits of the earth are not brought to perfection immediately, but by time, rain and care; similarly, the fruits of men ripen through ascetic practice, study, time, perseverance, self-control and patience.”
So much in life does not happen over night. We need patience and perseverance. We need care and time. The Desert Fathers, who sought God in the silence of the desert, away from the noisy and busy world, knew this.
