The Luminous Mysteries – 3rd weekend in October (Oct 15 and 16) - Respect for Life in the Catholic faith

Prayer at the beginning of the rosary
O Mary, Mother of Jesus and Mother of us all, we turn to you today as the one who said "Yes" to Life. "You will conceive and bear a Son," the angel told you. Despite the surprise and the uncertainty about how this could be, you said yes. "Be it done unto me according to your word."
Mary, we pray for all of us today, but we pray especially for all mothers who are afraid to be mothers. We pray for those who feel threatened and overwhelmed by their pregnancy. Intercede for them, that God may give them the grace to say yes and the courage to go on. May they have the grace to reject the false solution of abortion. May they say with you, "Be it done unto me according to your word." May they experience the help of Christian people, and know the peace that comes from doing God's will. Amen.

First Luminous Mystery: Christ is baptized in the Jordan River
When Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist, the Father's voice is heard: "This is my beloved Son." All are called to become adopted sons and daughters of God through baptism. We pray that children in the womb may be protected, so that they may be born and welcomed into the Christian community by baptism.  We pray that all human life may be valued and protected from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death.

Second Luminous Mystery: Christ is made known at the Wedding of Cana
Jesus revealed His glory by the miracle at Cana. The new couple was blessed not only with wine, but with faith in Christ. Let us pray for strong marriages that are centered in the Lord, marriages that are open to the gift of new life and open to the will of God.

Third Luminous Mystery: Christ proclaims the Kingdom and Calls Us to Conversion
"Repent and believe the Good News." Let us pray that these first words of Jesus' public ministry may be heard by all who are need of repentance.  We pray for those who are struggling with addictions of any kind.  We pray for those who turn to anger and violence rather than compassion and reconciliation.  We pray for those in prison and in correctional institutions.  We pray for the souls of those prisoners who were put to death through the death penalty. We pray for those who are the victims of crime and violence. May we all hear the call to conversion and forgiveness.  May we experience life-giving repentance in our lives.

Fourth Luminous Mystery: The Transfiguration
Christ is transformed on the mountain and the disciples see His glory. May the eyes of all people be transformed, that they may see each and every human life as a reflection of the glory of God Himself.

Fifth Luminous Mystery: Jesus gives us the Eucharist
"This is My Body, given up for you." The Eucharist teaches us how to live and how to love. Let us pray for all those who make sacrifices in their lives for the sake of others, especially for parents and grandparents who put their our needs and desires aside for the good of their children.

Prayer – end of the rosary -
God of life and love, you created us in your image and you sent your Son to bring us life.
Instill in us a respect for all human life from the moment of conception to moment of natural death.
Empower us to work for justice for the poor.
Encourage us to be good caretakers of the earth.
Nourish us that we may bring food to the hungry.
Inspire us to cherish the fragile life of the unborn.
Strengthen us to bring comfort to the chronically ill.
Teach us to treat the aged and the infirm with dignity and respect.
Bring us one day into the glory of everlasting life.
We ask through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
