Advent Reflection - 16 December 2019 - Purple is the color of preparation

   Purple is for preparation: In both the Old and New testament, purple is found to be a rare and valuable color symbolizing royalty, wealth, and status.  In our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atriums, we speak about purple as the color for waiting and preparing.  Children discover the season of Advent is a season of waiting and preparing for the birth of Jesus which we celebrate at the great feast of Christmas.
At home, place your advent wreath where your family will see it often.  Maybe even place a purple cloth under or near your wreath.  Light the candles frequently and talk about what we are preparing for in the season of Advent – the birth of Jesus, our Savior.
      Singing gives children (and adults) a way of expressing emotions and spirituality.  Try singing one of these favorites from the Atriums with your children or grandchildren as you light your Advent Wreath (click on the provided links to hear the songs):
