Penitential rite
Lord Jesus - you call us to holiness.
Christ Jesus - you call us to prepare a way for the Lord.
Lord Jesus - you are the Son of the Father
Priest: Today as we rejoice in expectation of the coming of our Savior, we make our prayers to our understanding and generous Father.
1. As in the ministry of John the Baptist, we are reminded that we too have been anointed in baptism and sent to bring the good news to the poor and the broken. We pray that we are true to our role as followers of Christ.
2. We pray for our leaders in the Church, ordained and non-ordained, that they may be inspired to prepare God’s people for the coming of our Savior.
3. We pray today for all who bear witness to the message of Christ by word and example, – parents, grandparents, parish workers, teachers, and community leaders. We pray particularly for those who dedicate their lives to caring for the homeless, the poor and the rejected.
4. During this Advent period, we pray for the time, the space and the grace to reflect on the meaning and purpose of our lives as we await with expectation the joy of the Christmas birth.
5. For the sick and shut-in and for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed.
6. We remember in silence our own personal intentions and the intentions of those who have asked for our prayers.
Priest: Father, as we journey through this season of Advent, may we open our minds and hearts to your word and to your presence in our brothers and sisters. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
