Photos - St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church - Yazoo City

These are photos of the exterior and interior of St Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church located on Powell Street in Yazoo City on "the top of the hill", as the
locals describe it.  I usually walk there every Sunday morning for the 8:00 am
mass.  We normally have between 60 to 80 parishioners attending that mass. St
Francis of Assisi is a historically African American parish that was founded by
priests of the Society of the Divine Word.  The school attached to the parish
was run by the School Sisters of St Francis from Milwaukee.  The church
building is rather stark but also very beautiful in its own way.  (These photos
were taken by my good friend Glen Tannehill of Jackson.  He is a wonderful
photographer.)

  1. The new format for your blog looks wonderful. The green in the background makes me think of kudzu growing in the Yazoo City area. And thanks for sharing the lovely photos of St. Francis of Assissi Church with your readers.
