O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin prepared a worthy dwelling for your Son, grant, we pray, that, as you preserved her from every stain by virtue of the Death of your Son, which you foresaw, so, through her intercession, we, too, may be cleansed and admitted to your presence.
This is the collect for the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, which we pray at the beginning of mass on December 8, 2017, on this holy day of obligation in the midst of Advent. We lift up our prayers to Mary, who is such an integral part of our Advent journey. We celebrate that Mary was preserved from sin to be a fitting mother for our Lord Jesus, true God and true man - what a wonderful solemnity to celebrate in our time of preparation for Christmas.
This is a blog of homilies, reflections, and photos from a Roman Catholic priest serving in the Diocese of Jackson in the state of Mississippi. Currently, I am the pastor of Holy Savior in Clinton and Immaculate Conception in Raymond. I have served as Vicar General of the Diocese since July 2019. I also serve as Catholic chaplain in the federal prison in Yazoo City and the state prison in Pearl.
