Seeking God in All Things is our theme for Lent at St James Catholic Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. The inspiration for this theme came from a quote from the Trappist Monk from Kentucky Thomas Merton - "We must in all things seek God. But we do not seek God the way we seek a lost object, a 'thing.' God is present to us in our heart, in our personal subjectivity, and to seek God is to recognize this fact." We are to seek God no matter where we are on our journey. We are to seek him in our joy and our sorrows, in our questions and in our answers, in our hopes and our dreams, in the moments of silence and tranquility, and in the moments of noise and disturbance. This holy Lenten season, let us seek God in all things. We handed out a small colorful magnifying glass to each parishioner as a symbol and reminder of "Seeking God in All Things."
This is a blog of homilies, reflections, and photos from a Roman Catholic priest serving in the Diocese of Jackson in the state of Mississippi. Currently, I am the pastor of Holy Savior in Clinton and Immaculate Conception in Raymond. I have served as Vicar General of the Diocese since July 2019. I also serve as Catholic chaplain in the federal prison in Yazoo City and the state prison in Pearl.
