As Catholics, we are to proclaim and live out the Gospel of Life, respecting human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death. These crosses at Christ the King Catholic Church in Fulton are a silent witness to the Gospel of Life. Yesterday, there was an execution planned in our state of Mississippi for prisoner Willie Jerome Manning, but fortunately there was a stay put on the execution from the Supreme Court of Mississippi. We had planned a prayer vigil here at the front steps of our parish in Tupelo, but fortunately did not have to proceed with our vigil. As difficult and as complex as respecting human life is in all of its facets, especially at the times we want retribution or vengeance or revenge, may we we hear how the Gospel of Life calls out to us in the modern world.
This is a blog of homilies, reflections, and photos from a Roman Catholic priest serving in the Diocese of Jackson in the state of Mississippi. Currently, I am the pastor of Holy Savior in Clinton and Immaculate Conception in Raymond. I have served as Vicar General of the Diocese since July 2019. I also serve as Catholic chaplain in the federal prison in Yazoo City and the state prison in Pearl.
