We celebrated the 60th anniversary of our parish of Holy Savior this past weekend on 16 August 2026. We have an interesting history in our Catholic community in Clinton, as it is a much more recent community compared to St Peter in Jackson or Immaculate Conception in Raymond. As the Catholic community grew in the town of Clinton in the 1960s, there was a need for a parish there, with Father Uricheck installed as the founding past in August 1966. The first Mass was held at the student union building of Mississippi College, which is a very interesting fact. For a while, the Clinton community attended Mass in the neighboring town of Raymond until a trailer was installed on our current site in Clinton in 1967. Our current church building was dedicated in 1987. Even with our 60 year history, we do not have a huge list of pastors with Father Uricheck, Father Spadini, Father Ruane, Father Prendergast, and Father McGing following. Father McGing is still in residence here at Holy Savior as our pastor emeritus. For the Mass count we took in the spring of this year, we averaged 425 people at Mass each weekend. Even in Clinton, which is still a strong Protestant and Baptist community, we have a strong Catholic presence that extends beyond our numbers and our percentage of the population. Our Catholic community is very diverse in Clinton, representing families who have been here since the parish’s founding, to newly located couples and families in Clinton. We have large groups of adults preparing to enter the Church both this year and last year, which shows how dynamic our parish is right now. Our ministries for children and youth and the young at heart group are growing and thriving. Our parish is the lead parish of the first ACTS English retreat in the Diocese for men and women and we sponsor largest prison ministry in the state, with upwards of 200 inmates ministered to each week. We try very hard to emphasize the devotions and rites of our faith, such as adoration, devotions to Mary, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, adoration, and devotion to the saints. We are proud to have very active Knights of Columbus and their Knights ladies auxiliary. We have a very wonderful history here at Holy Savior. We are blessed by the leadership we have had our parish throughout the years, both lay and ordained. We are blessed by the joy and faith of our parishioners throughout the history of our parish. Thankfully, this is a history that has not ended, but that is continuing to the present day and is looking to the future.
