Just two days ago, we celebrated the birth of our Savior. Today, as we celebrate the feast day of St John the Evangelist, we hear an account of the resurrection story, which should not shock us. Christ’s resurrection is a part of his story that was ushered into the world by his birth. Jesus was born into the world not to die as us human beings, but from all eternity, he was destined to rise from the dead as the son of God.
The beloved disciple, John, is central to today’s Gospel story, appearing at the empty tomb of the resurrected Lord. The Gospel today testifies to John seeing the empty tomb and believing without having to see the risen Christ. The Beloved Disciple is the first person to believe in Christ’s resurrection without seeing him risen.
We have a number of great feast days that we celebrate in the Octave of Christmas, with the commemoration of St Stephen the Martyr yesterday and the celebration of the Holy Family this weekend. Blessings to all of you as we continue to celebrate Christ’s birth during this joyful Octave of Christmas.
